The Giver by Lois Lowry : review

Hi guys

Today I am reviewing 'The Giver' by Lois Lowry

Picture

Summary:

The giver is about a boy called Jonas who lives in a world were everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the Community. When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.

My opinion:

I picked this book up after seeing the movie at the cinema with my dad. I instantly wanted to know what happened next but knew I would have to read the first book before I dived into the second.

The first thing I noticed was that the book was very short with only 179 pages, though the font is rather small, so it only took 2 days to read which is pretty fast by my standards. The book was very gripping from the first page and made you unable to put the book down.

The book was rather different from the film yet it still had the same quality's that made me want to read the book in the first place.

I give The Giver 3.5 stars out of 5 because I was expecting a very thought provoking novel and it was just a nice, fun read.

Even though I gave it a lower score I would still recommend that you read The Giver.
